I’m Alive But My Computer Is Not!

I just wanted to say sorry guys that I was unable to continue my blog, I know I had 2,000 views just in the first month of being here in Brazil so I hated to disappoint you but my computer broke so I was unable to continue, and it’s a shame because we have done some amazing things! :( The good news is I am getting a new computer AND hopefully will soon be making videos and blogs at beautiful wedding and honeymoon destinations… more on that later!

Pantanal Tour

We were in the Pantanal for 4 days and 3 nights doing a tour package where we got to do a lot of really fun activities and saw some amazing things, here are some slides of what we did and saw, they are mostly wildlife pics.

Brazilian Spice Rack

As you can see the Brazilian spice rack consists entirely of a giant jar of oregano! Brazilians use oregano like Americans use butter, they put it on everything!!! Ok, ok, slight exaggeration, but they put it on a lot of things, like anything that has cheese, including mexican quesadillas! Also, in two out of three Brazilian houses I’ve been too, it has been the only spice and in a giant jar!

Blingin Vodka

This precious vodka was distilled from grain born and raised in the bling-blinging fields of southern Sweden. Vodka has been shining under the a.k.a. of Absolut since 1879. This bottle is on of the few to be dressed up for the party. Unlike the threads, the spirit inside is the real thing. (ok I know its not Brazilian but I saw it in Brazil and I just had to share it!)

Tuesday Nights at the Pelourinho!

Tuesday night at the Pelourinho in Salvador is the place to be! At 9 they have different drumming groups and Afro-Brazilian dance that everyone is encouraged to participate in! The dancers can be very helpful and they try and teach others the dance.  It is free and an awesome experience that shouldn’t be missed!

Best Hiccup Cure EVER! (true story)

So got the hiccups while we were at a bar (of course not because I was drinking too much! ;) and after I tried every American cure possible, one of the Brazilians took a packet of salt and had me put it under my tongue. I was sure it was some old wives tale/Brazilian Voodoo and wouldn’t work but my hiccups went away INSTANTLY! Gonna do that every time from now on!

How to say “Butter face” in Portuguese

So in English a “butter face” is someone where you like everything “but her face”. In Portuguese you call the person a “camarao” which means shrimp, because when you eat shrimp you tear off the head and throw it away and only want the body! About half of Brazilian guys are totally ripped, so “Camarao’s” are pretty common.

Everyone (not blonde) looks Brazilian

So in our daily life here almost everyone just assumes we are Brazilian, it’s so cool! The only con of this is when we have trouble understanding them they think we are stupid until they figure out that we’re foreign! Brazilians are such a mixed race population that really the only thing that makes a person look foreign is if they are blond. So I’m really glad I dyed my hair dark because we can totally blend in even when there are Afro-Brazilians around us!

Strep Throat

Nothing like a good case of strep throat 5 days before it is time to go.  At first I thought I was just having a reaction to the yellow fever vaccine only to find out a few days later that the 102 degree fever and extremely painful sore throat I’d been having is the result of strep throat.  Luckily I got loaded up with some antibiotics  to hopefully make me better.  So thanks to this illness I have been bedridden for the last four days and now it is 9 hours to departure time and I still haven’t packed or done half the preparations I need to, so nothing like saving it all till the last minute, because that is what we have succesfully done!! Wish us luck getting everything packed and ready to go in time! Our next post will be coming from BRASIL!!!!!!

Yellow Fever Vaccine – Not for the Trypanophobic

yeah thats someone like me who has a fear of needles and medical procedures… well the tetanis shot was surprisingly not bad at all, just felt like a little 2 second prick, which of course lured me into a unwarranted calm for the following Yellow Fever vaccine.

Now, imagine someone jabbing a ballpoint pen into your arm and then quickly squirting freezing hot lava into your arm in an explosive burst. I felt my arm going numb from my shoulder to my fingertips as the nurse explained how it worked.

Atleast it’s good for 10 years because its gonna take me that long to forget about it!
